Melissa Shoemaker has over 13 years of human resources and risk management experience in a variety of organizations, including private business and public sector industries such as sales, higher education, insurance and public transportation. She has worked with a wide variety of organizational sizes, from 30 employees to supporting employees at a fortune 500 company. She has collaborated with business partners in multiple states, supporting those in states with complex state employment laws, such as Washington, California, and Virginia.
Prior to forming Lighthouse HR Consulting, she was the Director of Operations and Human Resources for a transit agency, where she led employees through times of change, operations and HR process improvements, and positive cultural environment changes. She is a natural leader with a passion for collaborating with business partners to assist them in reaching the best solutions for their employee groups and business goals.
She specializes in performance management and disciplinary action coaching, striving to reduce risk for the employer, while also helping employees reach their full potential and get to a better place. She is also known for her workplace investigations and has handled many complex and serious matters including sexual harassment, discrimination, and policy breech allegations.
She strives to present leaders with accurate facts and risk analysis to better equip them to make sound decisions and protect their organization. She understands how critical human resources functions are to the operational and financial aspects of a business or agency, and how to balance these for best success. She believes that well-functioning entities know their operations, know and care about their people and skillsets, and strive to create a balance for optimal production and treatment of their people.
